Shenandoah National Park
Cedar Run is the less traveled trail from the lower entrance for both Cedar Run and White Oak Canyon in the heart of the Shenandoah National Park. After a short walk in on the trail the first left option is the start of the Cedar Run trail. The trail is relatively steep once you get going and after about a mile becomes challenging to those that do not like to scramble on rocks. You will be required to cross the stream a few times as the trail meanders through the peacefully quite woods. This can be difficult after strong rains or during the Spring melt.
The sound of Cedar Run Creek and the wind in the trees is all you will hear along your way. This stream becomes fairly dry after mid summer unless you hike shortly after a rain storm. There are several falls along the way including the one on the right that is a favorite for those that like to jump off the high rocks and slide down the falls. The water is cold year around so bring something warm to wrap up in if you are adventurous enough to take the plunge. There are plenty of opportunities for you to stop and take photographs of the stream as you make your way up the trail.
Cedar Run
Jumping off the rocks or zipping down the slide into the deep pool of cool water below is a welcome refreshment on a hot summer day in the Cedar Run.
The “cube” along Cedar Run is a great mystery.
